What are some tips on how to stop a cat from peeing on the carpet?
Original Question: My 4-year-old cat has been neutered but he pees and poops all over my carpet in different areas. He only uses it when he wants to and that’s not very often. I do not know what to do. If I cannot get him to use the litter box I will have no choice but to get rid of him. I really don’t know what to do; I have tried different things, moving his food, and putting treats around the litter box. I do clean it every time he uses it. Please give me some tips on what to do. - Robin

The first recommendation on how to stop a cat from peeing on the carpet would be to add a second litterbox in a different area from his current one. Make sure you haven’t changed cat litters recently, sometimes scented litters will deter cats from using them. There are pheromone products that can help relieve stress and products to attract cats to the litterbox. Visiting your vet to make sure there are no concurrent medical problems or potential medications that might help.
