Is Gabapentin for cats anxiety a good idea for air travel?
Original Question: When I travel with my Bengal she howls the entire flight and in addition she defecates in her carrier. She has done this two out of the three times I've traveled with her however she is happy as soon as we land. I have tried calming meds given to 4 days in advance and a gabapentin that I mixed with olive oil and rubbed on her front legs although neither did any good." - Ann

Hi Ann,
Traveling and anxiety in pets is unfortunately very common and can also be very difficult to remedy. I would assume the gabapentin was obtained from your veterinarian. Some cats and dogs respond to medications differently so other supplements or medications may need to be tried. If I’m understanding correctly, you are rubbing olive oil and gabapentin on her legs. Gabapentin for cats anxiety while traveling is not an appropriate use for the medication and you should consult your veterinarian for proper doses and routes.
I hope this helps.
