How do I know if my dog has a food allergy?
Original Question: My dog has allergies and has tried duck, salmon, and kangaroo. Our friend is feeding a vegetarian store bought food to help with allergies. What are your thoughts on this type of food? - David

Hi David,
Allergies, in general, are a difficult thing to manage. Are we sure it’s a food allergy and was a proper food trial done where only one of those diets was consistently fed for 8-12 weeks, ensuring no other treats or foods were fed? There could be other allergy causes at play involving the environment as well. Dogs are by nature not vegetarians but may do okay with that diet. I would suggest revisiting the plan with your veterinarian to make sure that all bases are being covered. I encourage you to read our article about treating the different types of allergies in pets for more information on this topic.
I hope this helps.
