Do you recommend bones for puppies?
Original Question: Can you recommend a bone that I may give my grand puppy to chew on? She is a Cockapoo and is 15 months old. Thank you. -
Thanks for your question.
It’s against my license to recommend a particular product. I would give you a word of warning here. Bone treats are extremely hard and can break or fracture your dog’s teeth. This is much more common than people think. The hard bone can splinter into shards that can penetrate the tissue of the mouth, pharynx, stomach or the rest of the digestive tract.
An appropriate treat would be one that is low in calories and soft enough to prevent dental trauma. I assume you would also like something that your dog can be entertained by. A really great idea is buying a large rubber hollow chew toy designed to pack full of different food materials such as wet food, kibble, vegetables and any other appropriate treat. By packing these items deep into the toy, your dog will likely be entertained for hours as it tries to lick, chew, ingest and engage with the toy to get it out. There are a few common brands and they will definitely be carried at your local pet supply store.
