Will spaying calm a female dog?

will spaying a female dog stop aggression

Hi Barbara,

I’m happy to hear you have adopted an adult dog, she is lucky to have you. We have done a video talking about the benefits of adopting a pet, it truly brings changes to your and your pet’s life. As long as she does not have any underlying health issues, then she can certainly be spayed at this age. You may find she is a bit more relaxed after being spayed, but it may not have a major impact on her anxiety problem. I am not sure which supplement you are referring to, but there are a variety available that could help. I generally like to start with supplements to see if those work before trying prescription medications. Your vet can help you select the most appropriate supplement for your dog, as there are many factors to consider, and he or she will know your pet best. You may also want to consider pheromone products, a diet change and consulting a behaviorist and/or dog trainer on her specific anxiety problems. Supplements and medications are always going to be more effective when used in conjunction with behavioral modification and training.

I hope this gives you a bit of direction, and best of luck with your new dog!
