Why does my cat hide under the covers?

A cat sitting on a bed and hiding under a bed cover with their face and neck exposed

Hi Theresa,

Thanks for your question about Mishka. As you alluded to, cats often can be very sensitive to changes in their environment and daily routine. Sometimes, these changes are so incredibly subtle, that you may never be aware of them. Examples might include a new barking dog in the neighbourhood, birds or other wildlife she can see outside, or perhaps construction projects in the area. Medical conditions and pain can also lead to changes in a cat’s behavior. They may react by changing their eating habits, avoiding the litter box or hiding, as you’ve described.

It is very difficult to know what be bothering your kitty. To be cautious, I would suggest having Mishka checked by your vet to ensure there are no concerns with her medically.

All the best!
