What should I look for when choosing cat food?

Hi Raaoof,

Pet nutrition is a busy and convoluted area for many people. Almost every commercial cat food will meet specific nutrient requirements that will give a balanced diet. When choosing cat food you can look for the AAFCO statement on the bag which will tell you if it “meets the minimum requirements” or if it has “been tested” for the regulations, either is acceptable. There will always be some differences between nutrient ratios (protein vs. fat vs. carbs), type and quality of ingredients, and cost. There are so many different food options out there and it might be helpful to talk with your veterinarian if you have nutrition concerns. For more information about this topic, I encourage you to check out our video that discusses the type of food to feed a cat or dog.

All the best.
