Is it safe to remove canine gallbladder stones and perform the spay in the same surgery?

A Maltipoo standing in the grass with canine gallbladder stones

Hi Bobbie,

Gallbladder stones can be potentially life-threatening and should be addressed sooner if there is an obstruction of the bile duct. A spay is an elective procedure unless there is an infection in the uterus. The decision of whether surgery is okay is best left to your vet to decide who can assess your dog in its current state. Lots of factors come into play including anesthesia protocols, pre-operative blood tests, how advanced the conditions are, and how stable they are during the procedure.

I hope this helps.
