Is it safe to give a dog a dose of Clavaseptin antibiotic late or should it be skipped?

Hi Muriel,

Thanks for your question. I’m sorry to hear that you’re dealing with this.

Right off the bat, I have to question whether you have explained this issue properly. You say a kidney infection, but I suspect you may be dealing with a bladder infection. The antibiotic you are currently administering is a common treatment for this.

Ideally we try and give medication consistently on a regular basis but sometimes this isn’t always possible. If you’re off by a few hours, I would suggest you administer it rather than skipping the dose. Veterinarians will have differing opinions on this so I would want you to confirm with your veterinarian. I’m suggesting this because an antibiotic like this does not carry risks of overdosing if two treatments are close together. By not skipping the dose, you are better able to keep the presence of the antibiotic in the bloodstream at therapeutic levels more consistently.

I hope this helps.
